My Pulse rises, my pupils widen, my heart skips a beat, and I may be little out of breath. I am experiencing an adrenalin rush. This is what I experience when I go to the VA facility in Loma Linda. It is a conditioned response from years of dealing with the VA system. Now, I feel this way anytime I go to visit the Doctors office. There are many reasons for this. Long wait times are frustrating, especially for someone with PTSD. The fact that there are more germs in a doctor’s offices is a source of worry as well. The young and seeming inexperienced medical staff does not give me confidence in their ability. I believe that visits to the doctor can prove more traumatic than the illness. One major infection that has been plaguing the health care facilities is MRSA (Methicillin- resistant Staphylococcus aureus.) This is a potentially lethal bacterium that is resistant to many antibiotics. Some have labeled it a super bug. These germs are something that cause worry. What if I bring them home to my family? The VA has young and inexperienced doctors could be worse than the illness. The instances of malpractice in the US are huge. The VA health care installation in Loma Linda is a teaching facility so it employs students in their final years of medical school. This makes me nervous because how is someone who is still learning their trade supposed to practice medicine on me effectively. I remember a few years back when I got out of the Army the stories of veterans getting substandard care. So I decided to do some research and found out that there was a primetime investigation done with Diane Sawyer that exposed negligence, malpractice and misdiagnosis of veterans, I am an example of this. I was given medication for hypertension when I was actually experiencing t he phenomenon of white coat syndrome.
